About the equipment

 

Diagnodent The Diagnodent (left) is a laser cavity detector. We simply run the wand around all surfaces of the teeth, and the machine gives a numerical value to any level of decay—and the patient doesn’t feel a thing! This allows us to see if anything is even stating, so we can evaluate the stage. This way we can make a note of what to watch out for next time to see if it has become any worse, and we’ll know for sure if there’s anything that needs to be taken care of right away.
The Healozone machine uses O3, or Ozone gas to reverse the decay process. What? Does this mean no drilling and filling? YES! (We hope, although there’s always still the chance, and this is why you have to take care of your teeth too!) A suction-type cap is placed over the tooth to be treated, ad when sealed; the gas is released over the tooth. Treatment takes approx. 90 seconds per tooth. Sometimes pretreatment is necessary. The Healozone is used at Dr. Jan’s office.
Digital x-rays are taken basically the same way as traditional radiographs; however they do not need to be developed. They come up immediately on our computer screen and allow us to show you where any abnormalities maybe, on a larger scale. We can circle things and adjust colours to make things pop out to those of you who aren’t used to looking at x-rays (as it can sometimes be difficult to notice what we are pointing out). Although dental x-rays are already very low radiations, digital systems lower the radiation even more.
